Many people are aware that antivirus software is essential for the protection of their computers, but few are aware of the extent the industry has to deal with. Even the best antivirus software can be affected by issues. Some are minor and easily be resolved, whereas others are more serious.
One of the major issues is that virus-signature protection doesn’t cover a broad variety of threats. It takes antivirus companies some time to issue updates to their anti-virus software when new viruses are discovered. This is because they need to wait until their software detects the virus and send the virus to be examined.
In the meantime, the virus is likely to spread, and it’s very likely that dozens or hundreds of computers will be infected by the virus. It could also spread to other networks. To be efficient, anti-virus software has to be able to detect and stop these infections quickly. This means that behaviour blockers or heuristic analysers are more effective than signature detection.
Incompatibility is yet another issue. While the majority antivirus software developers place much emphasis on developing quality products and pay a lot of attention to fixing bugs, the truth is that occasionally multiple antivirus programs can lead to conflicts.
