Microsoft’s built-in antivirus program, now called Windows Security, doesn’t require either a subscription or an installation which means it provides an abundance of value at no cost. The software is highly rated by the top AV testing labs and delivers solid malware protection without impacting the performance of your system. It has some extras like ransomware protection, a password manager and other useful features. It’s missing some of the more important features found in premium antivirus suites, and isn’t very user-friendly.
Security against threats and viruses include the usual speedy, complete and custom scans, as well as an intense offline scan mode to tackle difficult-to-remove threats. The firewall and network protection module is pretty easy to use, though it’s not as robust as other options. The biggest drawback, however it is that it only works on Windows devices and if you’re trying to secure an Android or Mac Mac or Android phone, you’ll have to find a different solution.

The password manager is hidden in the Edge browser and is able to sync to other devices. The downside is that you aren’t able to control the features directly through the app, and must use a web browser to do so.
